I tried to center this mix around a particular sonic palette… autotune vocals, synths, shimmery electronics and hard tropical drum patterns. I slowed most of the songs down and added lots of chimes and bell. Its not really dance music, but its druggy and sexy.

These photos of decay and peeling paint are meant to suggest abstract painting. Finding beauty in the collapse of our monuments is a skill which may prove more valuable as we accelerate toward apocalypse. I’ve taken photos of walls all over and for a long time. They keep changing as they fall apart until they are repaired or replaced… I imagine it as a very subtle and boring tv show that no one is watching.

Murder rap: An M-Town tradition? These 16 funkytown underground joints focus on homicide. Silver tones, smelly corpses, getaway cars, poison: these artist paint a picture of ghetto Memphis that’s threatening and detailed. Sadistic psychos who murder for laughs and nameless killers who fear the judgement of god. Ill haunted house beats… a brutally dark and disturbing vibe that’s distinctive of Memphis rap from the 1990s. Also there’s mad rapid-fire double time rapping, which I notice in a lot Memphis rap. Thanks to everyone uploading tape rips. In combination with a heavy sprinkling of gunshot samples, the tape pops add to the lofi, crunchy, grimey, sinister sound.
